This release includes versions of SLP for both DOS and Windows environments.
The software may be installed from either the DOS command line prompt or
from within Windows (using File/Run). Please install the software from the
environment where you will be using SLP most often.

				-- NOTE --

If you already have a previous version of SLP installed on the
target system, install this version into the same directory.
The SLP program and related files will be updated automatically.

If you have SLP loaded resident on the target system, you must
unload it from memory before beginning the installation of this
version or you will encounter problems.

Label Names - DOS vs. Windows
-----------------------------

If a label is saved with a name that contains "extended" characters, the
name will appear correct in the environment in which it was saved, but may
contain strange characters in the other environment. This is because DOS
uses the IBM character set and Windows uses the ANSI character set. This
will only affect the label name - characters in the label text will appear
correct in both environments.

Windows COM Port
----------------

In general, Windows often has problems with COM ports that share the same
hardware IRQ line. The ports that commonly share IRQs are COM1/COM3 and
COM2/COM4. This problem can usually be avoided by not connecting interrupt-
driven COM devices (that are used simultaneously) to ports that share an
IRQ line. The SLP is an interrupt-driven COM device.

For example, avoid connecting the SLP to COM1 if you have a mouse or modem
on COM3.

Label/Open Categories in SLPW
-----------------------------

The manual shows radio buttons in the Select Category section of the
Label/Open dialog box. These have been changed to checkboxes, to allow
the selection of more than one category.

POSTNET Bar Code
----------------

When the POSTNET Bar Code is used, the Top/Bottom Margin automatically sets
to Flush Top and the last line on the label will be reserved for the code
to print. The program will print POSTNET if it finds a 5 digit ZIP code or
ZIP+4 code.

In most areas, the U.S. Postal Service has completed the installation of Wide
Area Scanners which will allow POSTNET bar code to be placed anywhere in the
lower 4" portion of an envelope.

Miscellaneous
------------

If you are upgrading from SLP V1.xx and wish to use your old Memory, be sure
there are no blank lines *within* labels stored in Memory (or labels may be
separated at the blank lines).

Avoid using the Alt key as part of your hot-key combination when using
Microsoft Word 5.x, Microsoft Works, Norton Utilities, or other programs
whose menu bars are activated with the Alt key.

Smart Capture will include the ruler in Multimate Advantage. To avoid this,
you may find it easier to set Smart Capture to Manual.

Paste from Memory will not work with Samna IV.

If you install the software from the DOS prompt and want to use the Windows
version, make sure that you set the COM port in SLPW (in the Label/Printer
Setup menu) before trying to print a label.
